As we know, discussing is an activity we have ever done. Discussion  is a communication interaction performed by two or more people. discussion need a topic or problem to be solved together and discussed from different opinions.
                   
     A.   What is discussion text?

·        Definition of discussion text
Discussion Text is a text in which there is a problem. The issue will be discussed from several different points of view. Text discussions are usually found in social or historical.

     B.   What the purpose of discussion text?

The purpose of discussion text is a to find a solution of a problem that can be viewed from several points. There is some information from the expert who said, usually it is pros and cons.

     C.    Characteristics of discussion text

1.     Using modalities must, would, should, may, etc.
2.     Using simple present tense.
3.     Use language of discussion, opinion, according.
4.     Use the word thinking: believe, hope, feel.
5.     Using additive, contras, and casual connection (like comparing words) like similar on the other hand, how ever, more ever, but, etc.
6.     And consequences (cause of effect) such as: then, so, etc.

     D.   Generic structure of discussion text

The following is the structure of the discussion text:
1.     Issue
Located at the beginning of the paragraph that contains a problem or issue to be discussed in the text.
      2. Supporting points:
          In the supporting points there are two (2) parts:
          a. The basic idea of the paragraph
          b. Elaboration or explanation of the main idea of the paragraph
In this section there are some views on the issues discussed and the opinions of experts. There is a pro opinion then the opinion of the cons in the next paragraph
      3. Contra point (elaboration)
           In this section there are some opinions that cons issues or problems. Beside that there two component that are the main idea of paragraph and elaboration (description of main idea of paragraph).
      4. Conclusion or recommendation
         The author's conclusion or recommendations on the issue or problem being discussed which aims at the reader agree with the author's opinion. 

EXAMPLE DISCUSSION TEXT 

Should the death penalty be allowed?


 Some people were executed in Indonesia through July 2016. Most death penalty cases involve the execution of drug peddlers although capital punishment can also be applied for treason, espionage, and other  crimes. Many for and against reactions came after the execution. Then, should the death penalty be allowed in Indonesia ?
Proponents of the death penalty say that it is an important tool for law enforcement, deters crime, and costs less than life imprisonment. They also argue that retribution or “an eye for an eye” honors the victim, helps console grieving families, and ensures that the perpetrators of heinous crimes never have an opportunity to cause future tragedy.
Opponents of capital punishment say that is has no deterrent effect on crime, gives governments overlapped power to take human life, and potentially makes social injustices by disproportionately targeting people of color (racist). They say lifetime jail sentences are a more appropriate than death.
In conclusion, death penalty will always exist in our society as well as its pros and cons. For the proponents of this action, they think that it will be very effective to deter crime. While for those who are against, this policy, they argue that this punishment will potentially make social injustice.
